WinStar 'Armed with Veteran's Day track record
WinStar Farm's Well Armed set a new track record at Hollywood Park on Veteran's Day going 1 1/8 miles in 1:47.4 over the cushion track, shaving a full second off the previous mark for the distance. The four-year-old bay broke from the outside post and immediately assumed the lead, setting the pace throughout and drawing off to win by 4 1/2 lengths under jockey Aaron Gryder.
"He ran as expected," said trainer Eoin Harty. "He trained very well coming into the race. He was unlucky in his last start when he hopped in the air coming out of the gate. The added distance today was definitely to his liking."
The Tiznow colt began his career as a juvenile in England where he broke his maiden on the lead going 1 1/4 miles over Lingfield's all weather surface. He won a seven-furlong allowance event in his next start at Dubai's Nad Al Sheba Racecourse before being injured in the 2006 UAE Derby GII. He did not start again until last month at Oak Tree where he lost all chance after breaking in the air going short.
Well Armed was bred in Kentucky by WinStar Farm and is out of the Notebook mare Well Dressed.
"His next start will probably be the Native Diver GIII at Hollywood Park on December 8," said Harty.
