Victory by the Sea
Equilete Stable’s Victor’s Cry was sharp in his comeback race today, winning an allowance event going one mile on the turf at Del Mar to score his third victory under an impressive ride by jockey Corey Nakatani.
The 4-year-old son of Street Cry had been away from the track since November, but was plenty fit for his first start in over eight months. He broke a bit awkwardly from post five, but recovered quickly and sat well off the pace. He was in tight quarters around the far turn and was forced to wait for racing room until mid-stretch, when he exploded between horses and angled in to the rail, getting up by a neck over his nine rivals.
He’s been training very well and was ready today,” said trainer Eoin Harty. “He recuperated during his layoff at Pegasus Training Center in Redmond, Washington under the careful guidance of Mike Puhich and he came back in excellent condition. The training center is an outstanding facility.”
Victor’s Cry was bred in Virginia by Legacy Farm and was purchased at the 2006 Fasig-Tipton July Yearling Sale for $150,000. He is out of the Clever Trick mare Short Time.
