Testimony testifies at Belmont

10/8/2005

Darley Stable's Testimony graduated with honors on Saturday at Belmont with a 7 1/2 length win over a sloppy track in a 1 mile Maiden Special Weight for 2-year-olds under jockey Javier Castellano.

The bay colt rated in third position just off a fast pace and joined the leaders at the 1/2 mile pole while caught between horses. He responded well when asked and drew off under a hand ride to an easy victory over six opponents. Testimony had previously finished 2nd and 3rd at Saratoga in two initial sprints before stretching out to a mile on Saturday at Belmont, going off as the 6/5 favorite.

Darley Stable's racing manager Jimmy Bell and his wife Wendy were on hand to witness their colt's victory and were very happy with the race. Bell had always felt that the colt had plenty of talent, but was disappointed with his first two starts. "He redeemed himself today," said Bell.

Castellano, who has ridden Testimony in all three of his starts, was pleased with the performance, saying, "He's improving with every race."

Purchased for $900,000 at the March Ocala Breeder's Two-Year-Old in Training Sale, the Yes It's True colt is out of the Pentilicus mare Kit Kat Kitty. With Saturday's win, he has increased his earnings to $39,900.
