Barbara Walter's Robador rolls at Del Mar
Barbara Walter's 4-year-old homebred Robador prevailed at Del Mar on Thursday in a 1 1/16 mile allowance race on the dirt. He stalked the pace inside, split rivals to gain the lead in deep stretch and hung on by a neck under jockey David Cohen.
The Robannier colt was bred in California by the Robert H. Walter Family Trust and is out of the Falstaff mare Ivory Bowl. He won the $250,000 Snow Chief Stakes at Hollywood Park on April 24, 2005 before running in a pair of Grade 2 stakes, finishing a respectable fourth in the Swaps behind Surf Cat on July 9, 2005. He has been off since that race, but showed that he is back in top condition on Thursday.
"He finished very gamely," said trainer Eoin Harty. "This was his first race back and he should improve off this effort."
