Tam's 'Opinion is golden
Mr. Ping Tam's juvenile colt My Golden Opinion earned a decisive victory on Saturday in a Maiden Special Weight going 6 furlongs at Belmont Park under jockey Edgar Prado. The chestnut colt, going off as the 2-1 favorite, rated nicely just off the pace and made a bold move inside at the top of the stretch. He showed courage and determination racing on the rail and drawing clear to win by 2 1/4 lengths.
The High Yield colt was making only his second start after finishing a game second at Saratoga on August 16, where he missed the victory by only half a length. He had impressed his trainer, Eoin Harty from the start who said, "He's a hard-knocking, hard-trying colt. He has been a pleasant surprise since the day he arrived."
My Golden Opinion was bred in Kentucky by Kildare Stud, F. Gavin, and D. Owens. He is out of the Distant View mare Distant Breeze (CHI) and was purchased for $47,000 at the 2005 Keeneland September Yearling Sales.
"He is a promising colt who looks to have a bright future," said Harty.
