Scorpius stings in debut
Darley Stable's 3-year-old Scorpius delivered a scorching blow to his ten opponents as he debuted today in a Maiden Special Weight at Gulfstream Park going 6 furlongs with Fernando Jara in the irons. The bay colt broke alertly from the inside post position and immediately assumed the lead. He was never under any pressure as he drew away comfortably to a widening margin of 2 3/4 lengths at the wire.
"He was training very forwardly in the morning and he ran as expected," said his trainer Eoin Harty.
The Five Star Day colt was bred in Kentucky by Two Sisters Stable and was purchased at the 2004 Keeneland September Yearling Sale for $400,000. He is a May foal out of the Copelan mare Grand Betty.
