Barbican best by a nose

Darley Stable's 4-year-old Barbican scored his third win in seven lifetime starts in an allowance event on Saturday over Keeneland's polytrack going 1 1/8 miles with jockey Garrett Gomez aboard. The dark bay colt broke cleanly but was bumped around in the opening yards. He settled in behind the leaders and rated close to the pace. Turning for home, he moved up inside to take the lead and held off several challenges in the stretch. He appeared to spook just before wire but hung on to the lead to win by a nose.

"He was very game today," said trainer Eoin Harty. "He jumped a couple of shadows in the stretch, but prevailed under a vigorous hand ride." Harty indicated that he would look to put some black type on the colt for his next race.

Darley's homebred is by A. P. Indy out of the Mr. Prospector mare Colour Chart and is a full brother to 2001 Breeder's Cup Juvenile Fillies champion Tempera.
