'Eddy coasts home at Santa Anita
Coastal Eddy graduated from maiden company in only his second start on Monday in a six-furlong Maiden Claiming $62,500 with jockey Corey Nakatani in the irons. Going off as the five-to-two favorite, the 2-year-old colt rated just behind the pace. He made his move on the turn and vied for the lead turning for home. He drew away in the stretch to win by one-and-a-half lengths.
The Hussonet colt is owned in partnership by Dick and Linda Laird, Allen and Alex Kershaw, and Kathy Harty. He was bred in Kentucky by Hargus Sexton & Sandra Sexton and was purchased privately at the Ocala Breeders' Sales 2-Year-Old in Training Sale in April. He is out of the Valid Appeal mare Appealing Suzie.
"We bought him as a 2-year-old in training in Ocala and he's been very straight forward," said trainer Eoin Harty. "Alex Kershaw helped pick the horse out and she proved to be a very shrewd judge of horse flesh. He looks to have a bright future."
